These video clips are from our "dimmer switch" delayed arch onset practice session. The goal is to focus on not getting to 100% arch too quickly (like an On/Off light switch), but rather to bring in the arch more gradually (like turning up a dimmer switch), allowing rise time and getting to 100% arch only at the very top of the jump. We did this by saying "10 - half - Arch" or "10 - and - half - Arch" during the rise, and working on only being at full 100% arch when we eventually say "Arch" - not right after leaving the ground...

Video #1 - Not too bad, actually! (For what we're working on) Look at each frame of video after your plant foot leaves the ground. 1st frame: I see the front of your face; 2nd frame: I can STILL see your face; 3rd frame: head is back softly and you're just barely arched; 4th frame: probably 2/3 of the way to your full arch; then 5th frame: THIS is your full arch and it comes right at the top of the jump! GREAT job at executing this advanced skill...

Video #2 - The video frames fall a bit differently on the timeline in this one. (And this is not a very vertical/"above" release - but that's not what we were focusing on.) 1st frame after takeoff: looks like the 2nd on the prior video. While you are a bit quicker to the mid-arch on this one, you again do a great job of delaying the full arch as desired until the very top of the jump. The 4th frame after takeoff looks like it would be the full arch, but then we advanced to the 5th frame and THAT is where you stretch your chin 100% to full arch, even after your shoulders are already falling - and this rotates your hips UP with authority at the very top of the jump! THAT is how one new skill can get you an extra inch or two!!!

Video #3 - Another pretty good one...

Video #4 - So, this one is 5-0, to try to delay the arch onset even more. Good Lean but you let the release come through vertical, and you strike on the way up... Arch onset is not as delayed here with your head already back by the 2nd frame after takeoff - THAT is what we want to delay...

Video #5 - Here's 5-0 with the proper release control; and an easy clearance in this drill. 100% arch is on the 4th frame after takeoff...

Video #6 - Here's a 5-2 attempt, and the % & pacing just don't support the height. Execution-wise: Nice big Finish to a vertical release. I see a nice progression of the arch onset here; like 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100% on the five frames after takeoff. Nice jump - just not enough Energy at the Bar = Area under your parabola for this height - too focused on the drill we were doing! GREAT work today...
