These video clips are from our simulated competition, focusing on good approaches with ENERGY at the bar!
I thought our approach adjustment the week FOLLOWING these clips improved things tremendously!!! Video #1 - The goal of this approach is not Energy at the bar - the gaol is covering ground to try to get there. You show a little pace-up on step 8, but 9-10 are still just reaching to get there. I see more energy in 3-4-5 than I see in 8-9-10. Video #2 - So, this one is a little better, but some Taylor-ish skip there between 8-9; see it? Video #3 - This approach has some good pace-up and huge height over the bar. Early break causes the light strike. Some shoulder pre-turn in 9-10 un-leans you early, which also makes the jump a bit narrower and costs Energy... Video #4 - Yeah - Step 6 here is a good 5 FEET steeper than we want on the 45 - Yikes! 7-8-9-10 are all just R-E-A-C-H-I-N-G to get there, your leg buckles just alittle on 9, and then 10 isn't just a plant for your drive leg and arms to do the work - you push off 10 towards the bar and the jump just "fails" at takeoff. You DO have energy in this approach, but you are NOT in control of it - IT controls you... Video #5 - I think we'd moved you in a bit now, as 6 looks better placed. Similar to Video #3. I see step 9 is not adding energy, but checking-down, or arresting energy for control at the bar. A well executed jump and close miss at 5-2. Video #6 - Watch at full-speed. No pace-up to the bar, just maintaining energy at the same level. Again a BIG long hesitation step between 8-9 like Taylor USED to do. Enough control to clear 5-2. Video #7 - 5-4 1st atempt: Step 6 is farther away again and you really reach to hit 10. Similar to Video #4. Video #8 - This one is pretty extreme! Step 6 is very far away / steep. so you accelerate to cover more ground while keeping the turn more circular. Lots of speed + circular turn = LOTS of lean all the way into 10, and the bar looks high and far away - the HJ optical illusion we talk about. Video #9 - Count with the pacing. 3rd attempt at 5-4, pacing is getting tired from all that work reaching. Step 7 paces up a little, but then 8-9 are blah andEnergy at the bar is too low for the height... |
